Development/Staging/Production

In most cases you’ll want to keep data from your development, staging and production setups separate. We recommend that you create two products within KISSmetrics, one for development/staging and the other for production. This makes it easy to experiment during development and see what the actual data will look like within KISSmetrics without polluting your production data. So you might create two products:

Each of these sites will have a separate API key. You’ll have to write code to make sure that each setup uses the correct API key (KISSmetrics won’t do this automatically). Most web applications have a config file management system to make this easy. Although you could use a bogus API key for development/staging it is not recommended as you won’t be able to verify that the data is coming in the way you want.
